“With giant steps – and other stories” features a sequence of photographs made in different places and over several years: in the mountains of Switzerland where the artist is originally from, in the rural Romania, on a remote island in Chile, and in the North of Finland where Anne Golaz currently lives. Her work is narrative and poetical and alludes to themes such as disappearance, family ties, distance or exile.
19.12-23.02.2020 : Collective exhibition North Wind 2 / Pohjoistuuli 2 at gallery Valo Arktikum, Rovaniemi
> Each image functions here as a word or an enigma in order to form a complete sentence transcribing my personal perception of what "North" could be, while conveying a feeling of magic or dream in everyday situations. The proposition suggests with playfulness a deeper state of transition: about childhood and towards adulthood, from the permanent photographic imprint towards the elusive power of imagination and poetical interpretation.

Live performed reading with projection followed by a conversation with Federica Chiocchetti

(...)
It’s a complex book, but it’s also an emotional, felt book. In fact, that might actually be the most important achievement here, namely that the viewer is made to feel something."
